Turtles & Elephants at Hikkaduwa
hikkaduwa, a little town in the southern coast of sri lanka, housed 300 grad school students for its final farewell graduation trip. located 17 km from galle, hikkaduwa may be a place easily missed by the world traveler. but it is a perfect place for some sun and for all you surfers out there, the waves here are not bad at all! and to think that this place was nearly destroyed by the tsunami (you can still see the many hotels that were swept away along the coast).
i'm not an animal lover... at all. but i woke up one morning to find a mini elephant and a giant turtle sharing my beach. where does that happen? i've been with turtles in hawaii and elephants in most of southeast asia. but never the two combined. fascinating and strange all at the same time. hikkaduwa... what a place.
when you are in sri lanka and found yourself heading south, see if you can share your beach with these guys...
tiptoe through sri lanka
